Our Approach to Therapy

There are many ways to approach and achieve desired results from therapy; however, at Healing Ground Counseling, we tailor fit our therapy approaches to each individual and circumstance. It is vital for each plan to be individualized based on the individual’s and/or family’s needs.

What we have found to be successful is utilizing techniques that are research-based, which also make the journey toward healing as comfortable as possible. No one likes reliving their trauma. Reliving it isn’t necessary to attain healing. Through some of the techniques that are used, we revisit the trauma together in safe and comfortable ways, which will foster growth and ultimate healing.

You always come first in your therapeutic journey! We merely have learned the appropriate skills to help you along that journey, one step at a time. You’ve got this! And we’ve got you!

  • Healing Ground Counseling is dedicated to providing healing through high quality therapy and research based practices, such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and neurofeedback, to help individuals, couples, and families experience enduring healing and become the best version of themselves.

We specialize in providing healing and relief to those who have endured difficult traumas in their lives, as well as those who struggle with dissociative disorder, such as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). We are passionate about healing the community and world from trauma, one individual and one session at a time.

This practice tailor fits treatment to meet the individualized needs of each person who walks through the door, helping them to identify what works for them and provide them with applicable tools and resources to live a better life.

  • The main difference is the focus of treatment. With Trauma Therapy, the focus is on deeper circumstances that are affecting your current life, which are preventing you from living your best and most ideal way of life. At Healing Ground Counseling, we are dedicated to helping you gain or reclaim joy, peace, and happiness as we walk through the healing journey together in resolving past traumas that are holding you back. Most people prefer trauma therapy as it is more tailor fitted to their emotional difficulties and progress and healing is typically noticed pretty rapidly.

  • In therapy for teens, parents play a pivotal and supportive role in the teen’s journey. Therapy isn’t just about the individual teen; it’s about working together in a collaborative effort as a family to create a positive environment for growth and healing. This process sometimes involves needing to restructure some patterns of behavior within the home.

Parents are often involved in sessions, either by participating directly or through separate meetings with the therapist. This collaboration allows parents to gain insights into their teen’s experiences and learn strategies to support their emotional and behavioral development at home. If your teen’s therapist asks to schedule a meeting with you, no need to worry, you’re not in trouble! Your therapist is on your team and merely wants to help you and your family succeed in this journey.

The therapist may guide parents on how to reinforce progress, communicate effectively, and understand their teen’s needs more deeply. Throughout the process, parents and the therapist work as a team, ensuring that the therapy is beneficial, not just for the teen, but for the whole family.

  • It is our hope that you feel comfortable the moment you have your first interaction with your therapist, whether that’s through a free consultation or your first session.

The process includes receiving standard intake paperwork that will provide some information about yourself, your circumstances, and what kind of help you’re looking for. This will help your therapist to have an idea of how to prepare and plan for treatment.

After the paperwork is complete, you’re ready for your first session, which is 50-minutes long. In this meeting, you’ll meet with your therapist and get to know each other, as well as identify any circumstances in your life that may be especially difficult and any goals that you may have. If you don’t have any goals, no worries at all! Your therapist will be more than happy to explore different goals for treatment to make your therapy experience as comfortable as possible and provide you with sustainable results.

By the end of your first session, you will work with your therapist to schedule on-going sessions. It is recommended to schedule weekly or bi-weekly sessions because consistency is very important to produce enduring change and healing.

Your therapist can give you an estimate of the duration of the therapy process. Depending on your circumstances, relief and healing can begin within the first 2 months; however, therapy is more like a marathon, rather than a sprint.

As you and your therapist continue to build a stronger therapeutic relationship, they will understand more of how to fine-tune your treatment to meet your needs and help you experience healing and the reclamation of your life! We’re excited to work with you!

  • This is always a great question! We totally understand wanting to use your insurance and we’re glad you brought this up. At this time, we are a self-pay practice, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. However, many of the clients that we work with are able to get partial reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits using something called a superbill, which we provide.

There are actually a few benefits to not going through insurance:

    1. It gives us more freedom to tailor your care without restrictions.

    2. It protects your privacy because no mental health diagnosis is required to be shared with insurance.

    3. It allows for a more personalized and confidential therapeutic relationship.

We can help you understand how to check with your insurance provider about reimbursement, and we’ll provide all the documentation you’d need to submit. Many of the clients we’ve worked with find that even if they don’t get full reimbursement, they really value the quality of care and individual attention they receive.

If you’re open to it, we can talk about what your goals are and see whether this could be a good fit for your needs. We want to make sure you feel comfortable and that your investment leads to meaningful change.

Here is a guide on how to submit your superbill for potential reimbursement from your insurance provider:

"Therapy can be a sacred space where a person is understood, validated, and empowered to overcome life's challenges. Whether it's anxiety, depression, grief and loss, or trauma, it can all be worked through when provided the right tools and encouragement."
